A Quick Zero Degree Day

I know there probably isn't much more to say about Prospect Mt. at this point, but I have a few notable things to mention.

The promised temperatures were supposed to be around zero Farenheit, so I didn't want to take Sunny on anything terribly long. I did, however, want a view because it was a gorgeous, sunny day. Since I had to stop at the Lake George outlets anyways, Prospect Mountain naturally fit the bill.

The day before, I'd spent some time trimming the fur on Sunny's paws and before we set out I put on some roll-on paw conditioner. I hoped that'd be enough to stave off snowballs.

Sunny was having an awesome time running through the snow. We had the entire trail to ourselves which wasn't really surprising considering the temperatures.

We took a few detours on the way up this time. It was nice to mix it up a bit.

On one of these detours, I got caught on a branch and didn't realize until much later I was the microspikes on my right foot.  It was pretty obnoxious coming down the mountain later.

Sunny did not slow down the entire hike up the mountain.

As promised, it was a gorgeous day on the summit.

Sunny and I were fairly happy, but Sunny did finally develop snowballs on his paws. I crushed them out but hadn't brought the conditioner with me.

On the way down, Sunny followed me most of the way down, but he still had good pep in his step. He investigated a lot of smells, espeially a deer bed. I'd wanted to do some more exploring on the way down, but we followed our steps back instead in the hopes of finding my lost microspikes. I never did uncover them, I presume because the're elastic and probably ptwanged off into who-knows-where.

It was a balmy 7 degrees Farenheit by the time we got back to the trailhead. Best icicle ever.

I'm glad we got out, but I think I need to find a better conditioner for Sunny's paws. I'd also like to get a better razor for them too, but I'm having trouble justifying the expenditure. At any rate, I am always grateful to have the Lake George region nearby. We are so lucky to have so many free options for recreation close at hand.
