A Quick Zero Degree Day

  I know there probably isn't much more to say about Prospect Mt. at this point, but I have a few notable things to mention. The promised temperatures were supposed to be around zero Farenheit, so I didn't want to take Sunny on anything terribly long. I did, however, want a view because it was a gorgeous, sunny day. Since I had to stop at the Lake George outlets anyways, Prospect Mountain naturally fit the bill. The day before, I'd spent some time trimming the fur on Sunny's paws and before we set out I put on some roll-on paw conditioner. I hoped that'd be enough to stave off snowballs. Sunny was having an awesome time running through the snow. We had the entire trail to ourselves which wasn't really surprising considering the temperatures.  We took a few detours on the way up this time. It was nice to mix it up a bit. Whitehouse Camping Area

Sunny and I were invited to join Jay and John for a last-minute Winter camping adventure in the Whitehouse camping area along the West Branch Sacandaga River. The place is located in the Sacandaga Primitive area which is within the Silver Lake Wilderness.  The weather was proving to be reasonable and since Deer hunting was done in the Northern zone, we would likely have our pick of campsites.  We were lucky enough to find a place with $5-per-box wood just outside of Northville across the street from Edinburg Common School. I bought three boxes worth. Sunny was somewhat annoyed by this. Earlier that day I finally bought a decent hatchet to use for splitting wood for kindling and I was grateful for it. Site #4 is a great spot. In different seasons, I think it's great for larger groups. There are lots of places for tents and hammocks, though deeper into the site there are quite a few widowmakers waiting to finish their collapse. The Southern side of the site provides an obstructe...
