31 & 32: Nye & Street

  Some friends and I had carved out a day to hike MacNaughton Mountain, the lost 46er. We stayed in lean-tos at Heart Lake the night before, having fire and conversation until 10pm. The weather seemed poor for the next day, so we fell asleep with some trepadation. We had wind and rain overnight, but Sunny and I slept very well. The rain on the roof of the lean-to was pleasant to listen to, the temperatures were cool, and the lean-to did a great job of blocking the wind gusts. What's more, I'd brought a real pillow from my bed and it was amazing. I may try to find room in my backpacking pack for a real pillow in the future. At just past 6am, I made a trip to the privies. When I stepped out to use the hand sanitizer, I slipped off the narrow top step, stumbled down the stairs, tripped over a rock, skinned my knee on said rock, and bonked my head on a log. Return to the Clouds on Algonquin

  When my sister visits annually from Indiana, she likes to spend some of that time hiking in the Adirondacks. I can't blame her. I like to plan hikes I've already been on that I think she'll like. This year, I chose a short(ish) but strenuous hike up Algonquin. Buck Prep Hike I thought it might be a good idea to loosen us up with a hike up Buck from Shelving Rock Road.  The leaves are starting to turn at Lake George and the sun was shining. It proved to be a beautiful day for a leisurely hike. Sunny had a great day.  Sunny got tons of pets at the summit. Summit views were nice, but colors are just barely starting to change in Lake George. Heart Lake Camping Funny story. I've often checked the Adirondack Loj camping on the ADK website to see if there was any vacancy for campsites. It has never failed that there was zero vacancy. It only recently occurred to me that the Heart Lake Campground is a separate selection on the website from the actual Adirondack Loj selection....
